fly fishing in a small river in southern alberta

Fishing in Southern Alberta is a popular outdoor pursuit. People come to our area from far and wide to fish the world renowned Bow River. It is considered one of the top trout streams in the world.  Species include Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout.  In addition to rivers and streams in Southern Alberta, there are lakes and reservoirs such as Chain Lakes southwest of us, Pine Coulee to the south and Twin Valley Reservoir to the southeast.  Our Provincial Government has an active fish stocking program.  You can learn about the 65 species of fish in Alberta at the Bow Habitat Station in Calgary.

If you plan to go fishing while you are here a great place to start is having a look at our blog post on Fishing Staycations found here.
