Birdlife galore, deer, peaceful beautiful place
September 9th 2024
We are nature/hiking buffs, and really enjoyed our stay here along the river. We saw osprey diving into the small rapids right by our site, coming up with a fish, cranes, multiple sandpipers and ducks, a HUGE bald eagle with another smaller one, and a pair of vultures across the river in a tall tree amongst the floodplain thickets. We saw mule deer every day, fording the river and walking all through the park. Three meandered through our site. Coyotes serenaded us every evening. It is such a peaceful protected area that birdlife and wildlife abound. We took all the nicely groomed trails around the park, practiced casting in the river, along with a neigbour who was doing a beautiful job of fly-fishing, sat by the lake on the lovely deck built alongside it (right beside the beach volleyball), and took several longer hikes along the sheep river, into town for a lovely lunch/some shopping. We appreciated the very clean bathrooms, hot showers for cheap, outside dish pit, and the park shop was there for ice cream treats when we were hot walking by. Friendly and helpful staff, free WiFi, and the regular RV residents are quiet and friendly as well. People who stay here long term were pleasant to chat with as we passed by. Definitely a place to enjoy, no matter your age. We are semi-retired and totally loved it.

A Great place for a night or a month!
September 5th 2023
Rustic, in a good way. In a beautiful river valley with deer, birds, and great nature trails. A real sense of community among the seasonal residents and travellers. They had a Pride Parade, free concert, karaoke nights and bingo. Lots to occupy the kids with playgrounds, a swimming hole, and safe spaces to let them explore. Wood, ice, and essentials at fair prices. Friendly staff. Close to Okotoks, and the French 50 Bakery and more. We will be back.

Nice campsite on river in a great location.
April 23rd 2023
This is a large campsite located in a great position. Despite being only 10 minutes from okotoks town, (which is a delight) and under 20 minutes from calgary, it very much has a 'wilderness' feel. It's right on the sheep river with shallows and swim holes and surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape of trees. There are several nature trails, through shady trees and streams with cute bridges. Great place for dogs. The individual camping sites are not concrete and pristine, they are much more natural (graveled) with a fireplace and picnic table. Some are more private than others. (The treed sites offer the most privacy) If you want a fancy concrete pad in a 'manufactured resort type camp site,' this may not be for you. Three playgrounds, mini golf, a lake with beach and boat hire will keep the kids busy. Washrooms are older but very clean and full laundry facilities. There are seasonal sites here too, some with obviously well established residents but everyone is very friendly and helpful. Golf cart hire and a camp shop are very convenient. The wildlife is abundant. Deer wander through the camp regularly, bald eagles live opposite and coyotes occasionally leave an unpleasant poop present, but I really enjoy this site and the natural style camping it offers coupled with great amenities. I would definitely recommend it if like me, that's your preferred camping style.

Great place for kids!
August 15th 2022
We don't usually have children with us at Riverbend but we had friends visiting this month and the kids had a blast! We checked out the playgrounds, went on the paddleboats, played some mini golf and explored the river. The facilities are great for kids and the staff is so welcoming. I would definitely recommend this campground for families. Thanks so much to all of you there who do so much to make Riverbend such a great place to stay in the summer.

Fantastic getaway close to home with full hookups
May 7th 2022
This campground is close to home yet feels far away which makes for a great getaway. If you can request a spot on the lagoon the sunsets are fantastic and come with full hookups. You also see a surprising amount of wildlife like deer, mallards and I believe a beaver/otter. Sorry I don't know the difference. It is one of our favorites and I'm reluctant to share because it is so hard to get into campgrounds but Marilyn and team do a fantastic job and deserve the kudos.

We love it at Riverbend. It’s very close to Okotoks and Calgary, but feels like you are far away from the city. We have been here for 3 months this summer and hope to be back again next year. The campground is very clean and well maintained, with nice playgrounds, paddle boats, mini golf and even golf carts and bikes to rent. The location on the Sheep River is beautiful and it’s a great place to cool off. The staff here is friendly and helpful and the campground is quiet and safe. Thanks for a great summer Riverbend!

Awesome Family Campground
August 6th 2021
We absolutely love this campground, we’ve already been 3 times this summer and have plans to return again. It is very family friendly, large and quiet tenting spots, lots of trees and wild life. There’s a cute little lake in the park and it’s a couple minute walk from sheep river. There’s a small store at the front where you can buy snacks for anything you may have forgotten at home as well as cart rentals and a big bike rental. Best part is, it’s about 10 minutes from major stores yet you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere! Highly recommended to everyone.

Better Than Most
July 27th 2021
I live full time in a large class A RV. I have lived in this campground for a month now. Previous to this I lived on a large wilderness property by myself for eight years so I was concerned about excessive noise and other troubles I wasn't used to. I have experienced none of that here and I am frankly amazed. This is a pretty big campground in every way but it blows me away how generally very quiet it actually is. I consider this to be a pretty well run campground as the facilities like the laundry room and washrooms are kept clean and looked after. In fact I was doing laundry tonight and a lady and her daughter came in to wipe down the machines, etc. I commented to her about how I appreciated the nice facilities and she said to comment so here I am. Yes, there are quite a few permanent or seasonal residents here like myself but I haven't seen any problems related to that fact, This campground seems quite kid friendly to me. The management recognizes this and is very strict on a slow 15 kmph speed limit in the park. Running a campground this size is obviously a huge 24/7 job. So far it has certainly surpassed my expectations. For a city so close to world class wilderness Calgary has relatively few campgrounds. Some people will really like this one for it's close proximity to the city. Others may not like it at all. It works for me and I respect the effort that the management puts into it.

Our happy place
July 25th 2021
We’ve been camping at Riverbend for about 5 years and truly call this our happy place. The Sheep river is walking distance away from any site and is a great way to cool off on the Alberta hot days. They have multiple little parks for kids to play at, paddle boats to paddle in the pond, a 4 seater bike to rent to tour the campground, golf carts to rent to tour the campground in or beat your family in a game of mini golf. No matter what your choice is to do when you get here.. you’ll find it a great family place to go to relax and get away. Clean bathrooms with pay showers, friendly staff in the office ( they have ice cream for sale!!) and activities every weekend on top of the above listed things… We love it here

What a gem !
May 31st 2021
I came here and I stayed .. no plan on leaving. It is a beautiful campground nestled in a valley just outside of Okotoks. It has a huge pond with beautiful fountains where you can float around on or rent a paddleboat. There are geese - beaver - loons on the pond. Deer come in. The Sheep River is here with beach areas and people swim in it .... cant wait. The campground has a big friendly professional staff and it is well managed. The campground is safe - well laid out - great campsites - super clean washroooms and laundry rooms. There are beautiful trails for walking and biking. Thete are a lot of year round residents who have set up gorgeous places. I am solo and have met reallly great people and Have had help with various things. Wow!

Get a spot here if you can. This is by far the best campground I have been at in a long time. Their washrooms are exceptionally clean. Lots of things to do: Mini Golf Multiple playgrounds for kids Boats to go onto the lake Nice trails to walk and bike They are very strict on the driving speeds, music quiet down and no driving from site to site after 11pm which is awesome, as it provides everyone with the quietness to unwind without worrying about noise. Awesome awesome campground. Will definitely recommend.

Best Camp ground
September 23rd 2020
Spent a few days in this amazing campground and I tell you, Marilyn (manager) and all her staff treated us as if we were the only people camping. The bathrooms were spotless and cleaned on a regular basis, the camps are cleaned as soon as you book out so that when you actually book in your spot is all tidy and clean. The people who have been camping for 15 years or more assured that everyone will look out for your sight if you should happen to leave for a short period of time. Everyone who works in this camp ground stopped to see if we needed anything. I will advise anyone who wants to go camping in Alberta to consider Riverbend Campground.

Riverbend Campground is simply phenomenal. The owners and employees are simply wonderful. Marilyn, Kim and Dwayne are sincere sweet and sincere people. I really liked Benji and his awesome mustache lol. Really close to where we live, but it seems like it's thousands of miles away. The mini golf, good carts and the paddle boats agree great. A lot of trails to walk and the river is great. We lost a slice of heaven in the 2013 flood. We found it again at this beautiful place. Thank you Dwayne Couture for having us as your guest at your splendid campground. Looking forward to creating new and beautiful memories. We look forward to becoming part of three Riverbend Campground family.

July Long weekend
July 7th 2020
We have spent over 11 years staying at Riverbend Campground in Okotoks Alberta. The staff have always been so accommodating and helpful. The area and facilities are in good repair and looked after. It is a campground with seasonal sites and long-term residents throughout the West and East ends with a bunch of day and weekend sites on both sides. Well treeed sites with some on grass and others on gravel. We love the grass area's and the lake sites. It is Nice and close to Okotoks and Calgary. They also have a facility to hold a reception and dance. We will always call this place our second home as the staff is always friendly.

Camped in a tent trailer from June 26 - July 3, 2020. Campsite was in the seasonal site area and was well treed and private. The washroom was extremely clean and cleaned a number of times per day. Shower cost $1 and lots of hot water. Campground is adjacent to Okotoks which offers everything and is a 15 minute bike ride away. Riverbend Campground is on the Sheep River. The campground staff were friendly and helpful. Great camping experience.

Home away from home...
July 5th 2020
My family and I have been camping her regularly for several years. We usually camp with our close friends and have often brought several families. The Staff (Marilyn and Kim in particular) are so accommodating and one of the main reasons we keep coming back. We often camp on the East side along the river. The grounds are natural but well maintained and the location makes you feel as though you are somewhere else despite living just up the hill. We have our own trailer bathrooms, but I see staff cleaning the washrooms directly across from us frequently. Our kids love the park, mini golf, paddle boats and the 4 seater ride on cars. It’s a fabulous time for everyone. We love that it’s so close to home and the staff/owners have become friends. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a beautiful, friendly, accommodating campground with large sites with lots of trees and a gorgeous river suitable for fishing and even swimming when the level is low and current slows (usually later summer).

Made a last minute reservation, they managed to get us in. Before we headed south we had a few days in Pincher Creek area. As we pulled into Pincher we knew something was wrong with our trailer. Long story short we had a broken axle. Holidays over!!!!! Phoned the ladies at Riverbend to explain what happened and they were amazing to deal with. When we are down that way again (after we get the axle fixed) we will most definitely stay there. Thanks again ladies for understanding. Don and Michelle

Neat campground, close to the city and just around the corner from beautiful Okotoks. Reasonable rates. Ladies in the office were very friendly and polite. Bathrooms are immaculate. We had planned for two nights but we had to leave early due to two of our kids not feeling well. We were slotted for East Tenting- but we also got confused with the site map and ended up setting up in West Tenting. Office ladies were happy to let us stay there once we realized our error and had already set up! West tenting spots are sparse of trees/cover (I'd be willing to bet due to the floods in 2013?). East tenting looked 'nicer' but still not very private. It isn't what we expected with so many permanent trailers/residents - they have community events that take place and a golf cart "posse" haha. But everyone we spoke to was nice. Many small playgrounds throughout the campsite- are they in the best condition? No. But honestly even with my kids (all under 6) a playground is a playground. They have fun with all of them. And that's the bottom of my list of 'needs and wants' in a campground. Reasonable little supply store, decent sized bags of wood. Mini golf and paddle boat rentals. We wish we could have done that today but alas the kids had other plans... I'm sure we will be back. We were in a tent trailer on a site with no hook ups. I wouldn't recommend the 'west tenting' spots with babies/toddlers.

Was looking for a campground close to the city as my husband was on call this past weekend but we really needed to get out of the city and get away and relax. I found Riverbend campground online and decided to give it a try and see if they had space. Being we booked only 4 days in advance of a busy summer weekend I was surprised we got in. We stayed for two nights Fri/Sat. It was easy to find and upon arrival the ladies in the office where very friendly and helpful. We were happy to see a fully stocked store as well since we forgot cheese!!! We were shown on a map where our site was and had no issues with finding our way around the campground. Our site was a great size and very well shaded from the direct sun between some trees. We had great neighbours on either side of us and got set up no problem. For those reading the other reviews like me and wondering...this is a natural setting campground...so yes it's gravel roads and dirt roads as well as dirt/gravel lots. There are lots of trees however and there are some sites right along the river that have no trees at all. Basically if you want riverfront you may have no trees, if you want trees for shade then don't book riverfront and walk to the river. The entire campground is bordered by the Sheep River so access is never an issue. Bring your RV mats as you will want to use those so you don't have to walk on the gravel/dirt. Also anyone who can read a map can find their way around, it's not rocket science. There are a few tight spots for the larger 5th wheel/motorhomes to make their way around but you just need to take your time. The sites are somewhat packed together so if your expecting a layout like a provincial park with trees and lots of space between your neighbours you will be disappointed. The picnic tables can be moved as well as the fire pit rings which allows you to customize your site which was fantastic. I can't rate the washroom facilities as I never used them, however a heads up that the sani dump station at the office does not have water access. This would be really the only thing I'd complain about as no one wants to put away a dirty sewage hose. Yucky. We just hauled out and dumped elsewhere. Overall it was a great place, friendly staff and fantastic weekend swimming with our dog in the river!!! Great spot and will recommend to friends and family.

Golf carts were not driving around fast and there was no loud music. The campers and staff were lovely and respectful. They had a gay pride parade and karaoke for the long weekend. It was great!
